Muttiah Muralitharan claimed his 82nd wicket against Bangladesh in only his tenth Test against them as Sri Lanka took command of the first Test in Mirpur.
Murali, Test cricket’s most successful bowler of all-time, claimed 6-49 from his 22 overs as Bangladesh were all out for 178 in reply to Sri Lanka’s first innings 293.
With new spin sensation Ajantha Mendis missing through injury, Murali was able to dominate the Bangladeshi batsmen with his array of off-spinners and doosras.
Muralitharan, who took his Test wickets tally to 762 in his 124th match after the Bangladesh first innings, now has 54 more wickets than the retired Shane Warne, the second-highest wicket-taker in Tests.
