Comment: Murali has beaten doubters
Dec 6, 2007 |

By Kushil Gunasekera, Manager of Muttiah Muralitharan, seeking to clarify any lingering doubts regarding legality of Murali's bowling action

As Murali's Manager obviously there is no doubt in my mind that his action is legal and the suspicion arises out of an optical illusion owing to a bent arm at birth.

There is no other bowler who has been tested on so many occasions by the bio mechanic experts at UWA in Perth, but more importantly he is also the only bowler that I know who could generate spin even with an arm brace which Michael Slater encountered batting at that time which was televised by ESPN STAR sports with expert comments from Ravi Shashtri at the Premadasa International stadium in Colombo as well as in the UK facilitated by Mark Nicholas.

This film in my view should clear all doubts entertained just as much as Michael Slater was convinced as he had remarked openly during the recently concluded test series between Australia & Sri Lanka.  I wish this video can be shown to the Australian public at large to demonstrate his exceptional ability of wrist and shoulder rotation.

I am a great fan of Australia especially for their magnificent benevolence particularly post tsunami and for the forth right manner in which they deal with issues especially on deformity.

As such my fervent wish is that one day in the not too distant future the Australian public will have a chance to view him bowl with the arm brace to look at another angle of his bowling prowess prior to passing judgment without considering the 3rd side to the story which is the truth.
